How to Prepare for Competition Day
The Miss Carlisle Ice Queen competition gives judges an opportunity to learn who you are through interviews, introductions, and on-stage questions. The more comfortable you are with what will be expected of you, the easier it will be to focus on sharing your personality and your own perspective.

You do not need to arrive knowing how to do everything perfectly. We are looking for young women who are willing to learn and have the potential to grow.
Here are some of the best ways to get ready.
Start With the Judging Criteria
Before you practice anything, understand how you will be evaluated.
Review the judging criteria for your age division and become familiar with each part of the competition. Knowing what the judges will be considering gives you a better understanding of where to focus your preparation.
The requirements are slightly different for Little Miss, Junior Miss, Teen Miss, and Miss contestants, so make sure you are reviewing the information specifically for your division.
Know Your Introduction
Your on-stage introduction is one part of competition day that you can completely prepare for ahead of time.
Memorize it early and practice saying it out loud. The goal is to know it well enough that you can confidently step onto the stage and introduce yourself without worrying about what comes next.
Ask someone to listen while you practice. Say it in front of family members. Practice until the words feel familiar.
By competition day, your introduction should feel like something you know, not something you are still trying to remember.
Practice Answering Questions
You cannot predict every question you might receive, but you can become much more comfortable answering them.
Ask family members or friends to give you a variety of practice questions. They can ask about your interests, your community, your future, or situations that make you stop and think.
Do not practice trying to find a "perfect" answer. Practice explaining what you think and why.
The more questions you answer out loud, the more familiar it will feel when you are standing in front of the judges or answering a question on stage.
Prepare Your Response
Teen Miss and Miss contestants will receive a question ahead of the competition and prepare a memorized response.
Give yourself time with the question before deciding exactly what you want to say. Think about what it means to you and how you want to approach your answer.
Once you have developed your response, practice it until you can present it confidently on stage.
Your response is your opportunity to show the judges how you think. Make it your own.
Get Comfortable With Your Interview
Your interview takes place off stage before the evening showcase and gives the judges a chance to meet you personally.
You can prepare for this in the same way you prepare for your on-stage questions. Practice talking about yourself and answering questions with different people.
Remember that an interview is also a conversation. Listen to what you are being asked and give yourself the opportunity to explain your answer.
The judges want to get to know you, so let them!
Practice Being on Stage
Rehearsals will help you become familiar with the opening number and what will happen during the competition, but you can also practice how you present yourself before competition day.
Practice your introduction standing up instead of sitting down. Answer your practice questions the same way. Get comfortable speaking clearly and presenting yourself with a smile.
You want the things you have practiced at home to still feel familiar when you are standing on stage.
Give Yourself Room to Grow
Miss Carlisle Ice Queen is not looking for contestants who have already figured everything out.
We are looking for young women who want to learn. We want titleholders who are excited to become involved in their communities and are willing to make the most of the opportunities that come with their reign.
That growth does not happen in a single evening.
Some contestants return to Miss Carlisle Ice Queen year after year. They grow with the program, move into new age divisions, and come back with more experience than they had the year before. We love having the opportunity to watch that happen.
Winning a title is exciting, but it is not the only way to have a successful competition day. You can walk away having done something that challenged you, having made a new connection, or simply feeling more confident than when you started.
Come Ready to Be Yourself
Preparation matters. Practice matters. Knowing what will be expected of you matters.
Once competition day arrives, trust the work you have already done.
Come ready to share who you are and what matters to you. Be open to learning from the experience. Give yourself permission to enjoy it.
Wherever your Miss Carlisle Ice Queen journey takes you, we hope you leave believing a little more in what you can do.
